How we work

Decisions get written down before they get built.

We keep a second repository that holds no code. It has the principles, the architecture, and a record of every decision that mattered: what we picked, what we turned down, and what would change our minds. Internally we call it doctrine. Mostly it just means the reasoning survives the person who did it.

When a record and the code disagree, one of them is a bug, and we go find out which.

• One source of truth

  One document says why the company exists. Everything else has to square with it. If something does not, either it changes or that document does, on the record, with a date.

• Reversal conditions

  Major decisions record what evidence would cause us to reconsider them, so revisiting one later is a normal thing to do rather than an argument.

• Corrections, not rewrites

  When we get something wrong the record gets a dated correction, not a quiet edit. Knowing what we used to believe is usually the useful part.

• Say what is actually built

  We do not describe something as finished before it is. That covers this website too, which is why every product here carries a real status.

We are working on a public version. Until then, roles on the careers page name the records that cover them and we will happily send them over. The repository is private, and pointing you at a locked door would be worse than saying so.
